Had you written sketch comedy before you came to “S.N.L.”?
I’d written for a show called “Important Things With Demetri Martin,” and I’d written for some pilots with Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. But I would say that they first saw me through ASSSSCAT. Amy [Poehler] and Seth [Meyers] asked me to audition for the show. I was very, very nervous but I had a lot of fun auditioning because I knew I wasn’t going to get it. So I went in and was like: “This will be a fun memory. I’ll tell my kids I auditioned for Lorne Michaels.”
